Your first session in 15 minutes
- Create a workspace. Sign up with your work email and company name. You become the workspace Owner.
- Start from a template. On your dashboard, pick New-starter onboarding check (or any template). It's copied into your workspace as a draft you can edit.
- Make it yours. Edit the questions to match your real policies. Changes save automatically, and the save status sits at the top of the editor. Add an explanation to each question so people learn from the reveal.
- Apply your brand. In Brand, create a kit with your logo and colours, then select it in the editor's settings.
- Check for issues. The editor lists anything that stops hosting, such as a question without a correct answer. Fix these and the Host button becomes available.
- Host. Press Host, then share your screen or put the lobby on a projector. Participants go to the join address shown and type the 6-digit code.
- Run it. Start when people have joined. After each question you'll see the answer split and the explanation; press Next (or the space bar) to continue.
- Review. When it ends, open the report from the results screen or from Reports. Look at the Follow up list first: these are questions fewer than 60% of people got right.
Tip: run a quick test with a colleague on their phone first, using the Capitals warm-up template.
For participants
- You don't need an account or an app. Open the join address on any phone, tablet or computer and enter the code your host shows.
- If your connection drops, keep the page open. Wimzi reconnects automatically and you'll keep your score. If you answered just as it dropped, your answer is resent once you're back.
- In an anonymous session, your name isn't asked for or stored, and your host sees only totals.
- In a session that records names, your host can see your name with your answers in their report.
Hosting a live session
- Before you start: choose whether late joiners are allowed, how scoring works, and whether the session is anonymous. These can't change once it starts.
- Keyboard: Space, Enter or → moves on after a question, Enter starts from the lobby, and F toggles full screen.
- If your laptop disconnects: the session waits for you for 2 minutes. Reopen the host page and it resumes where you were.
- If the Wimzi server restarts during a session, the session can't continue. Everything answered up to that point is saved in a report marked Interrupted.
- Participant limits depend on your plan (see Plans). You'll see a clear message when a session is full.
Self-paced challenges
Assign a quiz as a challenge to let people complete it in their own time, before a deadline you set. Share the 8-digit code or the link. Results build up in one report as people finish. Enter the number of people you expect so the report can show a completion rate.
Scoring, polls and anonymity
- Speed + accuracy (default for games): faster correct answers earn more points, with a leaderboard.
- Accuracy only: every correct answer is worth the same, whatever the speed. Good for compliance and onboarding checks, where a quick answer shouldn't count for more.
- No scores: no points and no leaderboard. Used automatically for surveys.
- Polls, ratings, word clouds and open questions never count as right or wrong. They're reported separately from knowledge questions and never affect accuracy.
- Anonymous sessions don't collect names. Reports show totals only; open answers are shuffled so they can't be matched to the order people joined.
Reading a report
- Joined: everyone who entered the session. Completed: people who were present for every question.
- Accuracy: correct answers ÷ knowledge questions seen by participants. A question someone joined too late to see doesn't count against them. Unanswered questions count as not correct.
- Follow up: knowledge questions where fewer than 60% answered correctly, with the most common wrong answer, so you know exactly what to revisit.
- Export: Owners, Admins and Trainers can download a CSV. Viewers can read reports but not export.
- See a sample report (made-up data).
Team members and roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including deleting the workspace and transferring ownership. Each workspace has one Owner. |
| Admin | Manage members, brand kits, settings and all content and reports. |
| Trainer | Create, edit and host their own quizzes, use shared ones, and view and export reports. |
| Viewer | Read quizzes and reports. Can't host, edit or export. |
Invite people from Team. Invites expire after 7 days.
Brand kits
A brand kit sets the colours, fonts, logo and background that participants see. Logos and backgrounds are resized in your browser before upload; SVG files that contain scripts are refused. Hiding the "Powered by Wimzi" label needs a Company pilot plan.
Importing questions from a spreadsheet
In the editor choose Import. Use a header row with these columns: Question, Answer 1, Answer 2, Answer 3, Answer 4, Time, Correct answer(s). You can also add Answer 5, Answer 6 and Type (quiz, truefalse, poll, typeanswer, wordcloud, openended, slide). Correct answer(s) is the answer number (1–6), or several separated by commas, such as 1,3. Wimzi shows a preview with any problems listed by row number before anything is added.
Troubleshooting
- "Code not found": check the 6 digits, and that the host hasn't ended the session. Self-paced challenge codes have 8 digits and use the challenge page.
- "Too many attempts": after many wrong codes from one connection, joining pauses for a few minutes.
- "Reconnecting…" banner: your device lost connection. Keep the page open; it retries automatically.
- Company Wi-Fi blocks it: Wimzi needs WebSocket connections. Ask IT to allow the Wimzi address, or join on mobile data.
